Could we draw certain parallels between cake baking and success making? Before reading further, spend a moment to mentally write a list of all the ingredients you need to bake a cake then read on, answering a few simple questions as you go.
· “Is it true that you need to know the right quantity for each ingredient?”
· “What would happen to the cake if you used the wrong amounts?”
· “What would the cake be like if you forgot to put in one less important ingredient like a pinch of salt?”
· “What if you forgot two or three of the ingredients?”
· “What would happen if they forgot a main ingredient like the flour?”
· “Is it true that the cake needs to be baked for a certain period of time?”
· “What would happen if you had all the right ingredients but only cooked the cake for a third of the time it needed?”
· “What will happen if you cook it for too long?”
· “Is using the right temperature for the right duration important?”
· “Is it true that if you have the recipe, use all the right ingredients and quantities, bake it for the right length of time at the right temperature, you can make the cake successfully each time?”
Becoming successful is like baking a cake – both require the right ingredients and both need to be cooked until they’re done. Knowing the recipe allows you to replicate the process over and over.
I’m sure you’ve guessed where I’m going with this by now, like cake baking, becoming successful at what ever it is you choose to do/be/have requires a selection of ingredients, some more important than others.
I have called this the “Success Recipe”.
Obviously there are many “nice to have” ingredients in the success recipe and of course there are those ingredients that are like the flour, they’re “vital”, must have ingredients.
I know if you’ve read this far you will have started to get words flashing in and out of your mind, as you think about the success recipe ingredients.
So I’d like to invite you to think about the success recipe ingredients, especially focusing your thoughts toward those you believe to be vital and commit to revisiting with me to follow my thoughts and ideas a little further in part 2 which I’ll publish soon!
